No ‘Dancing with the Stars’ season 24 for Usher, despite report

DWTS -

When we first heard a little bit earlier in the week that Usher of all people could be doing “Dancing with the Stars,” our initial reaction was akin to a raised eyebrow. It just didn’t make a whole lot of sense for it to be true! While he would be a tremendous get for the ABC reality competition, at the same exact time there doesn’t appear to be any reason for him to do the show right now. He’s an incredibly busy guy, it would be competing against his former show in “The Voice,” and to be frank, he’d probably command more money than the show could offer.

Website The Jasmine Brand was the first to “break” the news earlier this week that Usher was going to be appearing on the upcoming season, and that producers wanted an “A-lister” to be a part of the cast. While we do believe that the producers for the ABC series do conduct talks with prospective contestants far in advance, it does seem far too early for almost anyone to be locked down and that made us curious about the rumor in the first place.

Given that the new season of “Dancing with the Stars” does not air until March, we figure that February will be the time some contracts start to get hammered down. Remember here that the show likes to be relatively flexible, as there have been last-minute additions before like Alek Skarlatos to capitalize off of current events.

For further verification as to the falseness of the rumor, Gossip Cop spoke to a rep for Usher, who insisted that he will not be appearing.

As great of a dancer as we’re sure that Usher would be if he was ever to be on the show, we’re actually not sure we ever need to see it happen. After all, consider for a moment here that he would probably win the show based on his skills and his popularity, and we’ve already said that one of the things that we most want to see moving into season 24 is more cast parity. As much as we enjoyed Laurie Hernandez on the show, at the same exact time it was predictable from day 1 that she would be the winner. (Photo: ABC.)
