‘Chicago PD’ season 4: What would Voight and a love interest look like?
Mrs. Carter: Is it time for a different sort of One Chicago love interest?
Over the past few seasons of “Chicago PD,” there have been stories that have delved into the romantic lives of everyone from Lindsay and Halstead to Platt and Mouch to Burgess and Ruzek. Yet, for the most part our leading man in Hank Voight has been immune to much of it.
To a certain extent, this makes sense given the he’s been a man in mourning, and someone far to preoccupied with his own brand of vigilante justice to trifle with such things as romance. We don’t exactly see the guy internet dating, and he probably doesn’t give into the pressure of those close to him to look into meeting new people.
Now, let’s ask thing: Is there a person you’d want to see be in love more on this franchise than Voight? We have a hard time seeing it. Jason Beghe does a wonderful job playing every dimension of this man, and we know that he’s capable of giving us a softer side. We’ve seen it, even though it may not last for very long.
As for who he could romance, there are admittedly a pretty wide array of possibilities out there. There was a time when the Voight / Olivia Benson ‘ship was going strong, but she now has Tucker and the idea of a cross-show romance with these two shows in particular feels impossible. You would need a new character, someone who was tough in her own right but could get Hank to let his guard down just enough to let her in. Having it be someone like a prosecutor or even a defense attorney would be fun, given that these are characters who would challenge him.
The biggest thing when it comes to a Voight romance is that these are characters that you would want to challenge his way of thinking, but not change who he is. Viewers love Voight the way that he is, so they can’t rock his entire world. Think of it more as a small tremor that would allow him to see some things different while still being Voight. We’d love to see it happen, but we have to wait and see if it will.
