‘Call the Midwife’ season 6: Don’t expect rush for Tom – Barbara wedding

Call the Midwife -

Mrs. Carter: It looks like there may be a little bit of a wait before the big “Call the Midwife” wedding takes place, so get ready for a test in patience.

During the Christmas Special that aired on Sunday, we ended up seeing the characters of Tom and Barbara getting engaged after a rather-romantic proposal took place in South Africa. There was no wedding ring, but at the same time there was a very sweet and sincere proposal involving a blade of grass. It was a very honest and beautiful moment, and one that made us start planning their wedding in our minds – what’s the dress going to look like, the flowers, the cake and of course the vows!

Unfortunately, it does not seem as though there are any plans to rush these two down the aisle. Speaking per the Mirror about this big moment on the show, actor Jack Ashton had the following to say about the moment of romance and what could be coming up moving forward:

“It’s a very long engagement because we’re both poor. We can’t reveal when we get married but you never know, by the end of the series.”

Meanwhile, we also had the following comment handed down from Charlotte Ritchie, who plays Barbara:

“We’re not getting married in real life. But he’s very smooth. It was so sweet. They’re a lovely pair, they’re so similar in lots of ways and challenge each other and I think that’s lovely. It’s nice they’re putting other things before the marriage. There’s so much else going on, there are 1,000 new people every day coming into the clinic with their own issues so it’s nice that that’s not really a huge thing for them.”

Of course, we do very much hope that there are some happy times ahead for these characters, but we also recognize that there are no guarantees that the two parties even make it to the chapel. All you have to do is remember for a moment here what we saw with Tom and Trixie, or many other TV shows across the board. We just hope that this marriage happens because a wedding is the sort of thing that could serve as a fun culmination to the past few seasons’ worth of story.
