‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 10 in no hurry (for now) to rush Amy – Sheldon engagement

Mrs. Carter: While we all want to see Sheldon and Amy take the next step in their relationship, it may be some time before it happens…

As of right now, “The Big Bang Theory” is in a place where they are progressing relationships. After all, Sheldon and Amy just started living together, and Howard and Bernadette welcomed their first child in Halley. That’s a lot of progress for a show that has let some relationships develop as a slow crawl. Just think of it this way: It took the show a good decade for Leonard and Penny to live together without Sheldon in their house all of the time.

What we’re trying to say here is that it is probably not a good idea to think that the show is going to be giving you any further progress on the “Shamy” relationship anytime soon. We know that an engagement remains possible, but at the same time, the writers do not appear to be in any sort of overt hurry to make it happen. For a little bit more on that, just take a look at what executive producer Steve Molaro said on the subject to Entertainment Weekly:

“Right now, there is such a new world of living together and what that means, and working that out. That’s offered a boatload of fun stories, so I don’t think we’re in a rush for an engagement. Everyone knows that ring is floating around. Who knows when? I’m excited to find out.”

Ultimately, we could see this as something that is brought up once more when we get around to near the end of this season, or maybe even season 11 if that ends up happening. We wrote recently that while a renewal is likely, there are still some contract issues that would need to be worked through.

One of the issues we could see the writers for the show trying to figure out right now is simply one of variance. Having characters in various stages of their lives is fun, which is why we probably have a “Rules of Engagement” thing going on right now with Howard and Bernadette as parents, Leonard and Penny as a married couple, Sheldon and Amy as dating-but-living together, and Raj as a single guy trying to figure it out. If he does start dating someone, he’d still be in a different spot than Sheldon and Amy.
