‘The Good Wife,’ ‘True Blood’ alum Carrie Preston to appear in ‘The Good Fight’ spin-off

The timing appeared to be right for seeing more of Elsbeth Tascioni within the “Good Wife” universe. She has a brief appearance on the final season of the CBS series proper, but there were limitations due to her role on the comedy “Crowded.” Before that, there were some other limitations courtesy of her role on “True Blood.” While Elsbeth quickly established herself as a fan favorite character within the world of the series, at the same time there was always a certain degree of frustration given that everyone ultimately wanted to get to see more of the character than we had a chance to.

Per a report from Deadline, Preston is going to be appearing, now that she does not have another major show limiting her schedule, on multiple episodes of the upcoming CBS All Access spin-off “The Good Fight” as Elsbeth. While the precise circumstances of her return are unclear, the great thing about this character is that with her legal mind, and her placement within the city of Chicago, there is never a clear reason as to keep her away from the show forever.

Preston is far from the only familiar face from “The Good Wife” appearing on the spin-off beyond leads Christine Baranski and Cush Jumbo, as we’re going to see Sarah Steele be a series regular while Gary Cole will also be stopping by. We’d love to see more of Alan Cumming (pictured above) as Eli, especially since Steele’s character Marissa is his daughter. Unfortunately, there’s no guarantee of anything.

This news is the second big announcement to hit the spin-off show over the past couple of days; it was first reported earlier this week that the character being played by Rose Leslie of Diane’s goddaughter Maia is a lesbian in a long-term relationship, two things that are still somewhat revolutionary for this genre of television.
