‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 13 spoilers: Someone’s going to prison (but not who you think)

Arizona -At the end of the first part of “Grey’s Anatomy” season 13, we saw a storyline that led to Alex Karev having to make a very difficult decision as to whether or not he would choose to take a plea deal or fight the assault charges stemming from the incident with DeLuca. We still cannot tell you precisely what the aftermath of this particular story will be, but we can say that another character is going to be heading to prison when the show returns on January 19 — and they’re not alone.

Speaking to TV Guide, Jessica Capshaw confirms that it is her own Arizona Robbins who is heading off to the slammer for reasons pertaining to her job, which should prove exciting to us! However, it’s not going to be anywhere near as exciting for her given what she’ll be put through:

“Arizona’s been called in on a case at a maximum security prison for an inmate who can’t go to a regular hospital because she’s that dangerous … After the longest day of all of their lives, they all go to a maximum security prison, where they are meant to do something that seems like a pretty simple procedure. It’s truly kind of creepy at the same time as it’s super provocative and exciting.”

This is the sort of storyline that easily generates some excitement for us, largely because there’s really not so much else out there quite like it in the show’s history. We always do appreciate it when we see some of the doctors go outside of the hospital for work reasons, as it livens up the show that fittingly, feels the most clinical. Once you see characters in the operating room a few dozen times, it starts to feel routine; you also stop caring as much about the patients as much given that they all start to blend together and there’s little about them that makes them stand out this deep into a show’s run. With a situation this drastically different, you are increasing your odds exponentially that the show will end up being memorable.

As for what else is coming up for Arizona, we’re very much interested in seeing what the future holds for her and her new love interest Eliza Minnick, who was brought in to examine the training procedures — and has caused many a problem for Richard Webber in the process.
