‘Survivor: Game Changers’: Are the returning players (so far) good choices?

Game Changers -

Last night, CBS confirmed the longstanding rumor that the next season of “Survivor” would be “Survivor: Game Changers”. They then went a step further when they finally announced some of the cast. While we don’t know everyone, we do know eight of the twenty people who will be taking part. That’s a nice batch of castaways, and it is certainly far more than we anticipated going into the show.

Are these the right eight people to fit this theme? Let’s take a look at who we have so far…

Ozzy Lusth – Maybe if this was “Survivor: Game Changers of Redemption Island,” odds are he’d be a lock. He is noteworthy for working a twist to his advantage in a way no one else has, but unfortunately this said twist is not a part of this season. Also, he’s someone who may have already had his best chance of winning the game come and go.

Cirie Fields – One of the most strategic people to ever be part of the game, so she qualifies for this or any other theme perfectly. Here’s her problem: Everyone knows she is one of the most strategic players out there, and she’s not a huge contributor in challenges.

Sandra Diaz-Twine – As the only two-time winner, Sandra being part of this cast seems perfect. She’s easily going to have the biggest target on her here than she’s ever had, so we’ll see how that goes.

Tai Trang – Hey, he’s the first Survivor to bring a chicken to the final Tribal Council! In all seriousness, Tai deserves this for the Scot Pollard vote alone in terms of a willingness to play the game.

Caleb Reynolds – Here’s where things go a little awry. While Caleb getting medically evacuated was a game-changer for his season, we’d much prefer if he was either on a second-chance season or one like “Philippines” rather than a season that is supposedly featuring some of the game’s best players.

Michaela Bradshaw – Was she cast here for helping another tribe in a challenge? The definition is a tad dubious, but at the same time it’s hard to make a complaint against the selection of someone so ridiculously entertaining.

Tony Vlachos – The biggest lock of them all, given that he was arguably the most aggressive player to ever win and he changed the game almost every week.

Ciera Eastin – The whole “she voted out her mom” thing is blown out of proportion because it was mostly a symbolic move — and we’re not even sure it was a great one since it established herself as a larger threat. Yet, the rest of her game in “Blood vs. Water,” especially her being willing to go to rocks, was awesome. She’s worthy and we can’t wait to see her play again.
