Peter Capaldi still trying to figure out ‘Doctor Who’ season 11 future

Doctor who -With the latest “Doctor Who” Christmas Special coming at the end of the month and the tenth season airing in 2017, now is certainly the time when you have to start thinking more and more about the future of the show if you consider yourself to be a fan. We know that there is an eleventh season on the horizon, just as we also know that this will be the first season with Chris Chibnall as showrunner. (Steven Moffat is leaving at the end of the season.) There are of course questions aplenty about what the future of the show is going to be, especially because series star Peter Capaldi hasn’t quite figured out whether or not he wants to return for yet another batch of episodes as The Doctor.

Speaking to Wales Online, Capaldi at the very least admitted that this is a decision that he is intentionally trying to delay, and that there is a rather good reason for it:

“I’ve been asked to stay on and I haven’t made my mind up about that yet, mainly because I don’t want to have to make that decision … I’m trying to avoid it!

“Doctor Who does take a lot of time, but it’s a wonderful use of it. It’s special. I’m lucky enough to be in touch with other Doctors, and we all agree how extraordinary it is to be in this position. To decide to leave is a tough decision for everybody. [It was] very tough for Steven, so I’m just putting it off for as long as possible.”

We feel like Peter will probably need to make a decision at some point in 2017, that way he can then help to usher in whoever the new Doctor is when the show airs the following year. He’s got the holidays, and he can see what the reaction is to the upcoming Christmas Special “The Return of Doctor Mysterio.” This is an installment (see some photos here) that is going to feature a Manhattan setting, and an appearance from Justin Chatwin as some sort of masked superhero. This all sounds incredibly odd, but at the same time that makes it firmly in the vein of all “Doctor Who” episodes.

Stay tuned; we’ll have so much more on the show and its future as we get a little closer to the big special coming on the air! (Photo: BBC.)
