We revisit ‘The Amazing Race 29’ cast reveal subject with premiere date in mind

Amazing Race -Earlier this week, “The Amazing Race” and CBS finally had a chance to reveal the premiere date for season 29: Friday, April 21. While there may not be anything else officially revealed about the season just yet, this at least gives us a date to mark on the calendar and be excited about.

What it also does, for the sake of this article, is give us more of an understanding as to when CBS will want to announce the entire cast, the twist, and any other pertinent information that they do have. This is a science for the network more often than not. They don’t want to release the information so early as to where it falls into the recesses of their viewers’ minds; simultaneously, they also need to do so early enough that there is time to give the show a full promotional push and for longtime fans to discover it and determine who they want to root for.

To give you a comparison as to what the network tends to do for winter / spring seasons, they announced the cast for season 26 on January 20, a little over a month before that season’s February 25 premiere date. It’s a little bit harder to generate a comparison to season 28, given that this show, with its social-media twist, announced the full cast before it even filmed, a move likely designed to give themselves the power knowing full well that there would be scouts out there spoiling them in the first place.

The best guess for the cast reveal of season 26 is around the 15th-20th of March, a window after the launch of “Survivor” where it will have a chance to generate a substantial amount of standalone publicity, hopefully during the NCAA Tournament to go along with it. College basketball may be one of the reasons why the series is starting so late this time, coupled with the end of “MacGyver” season 1. Clearly, executives didn’t want “MacGyver” to end, the “Race” to begin, and then go off the air for a couple of weeks immediately.

Given we have our concerns about that timeslot and would like to see the Race last as long as possible, rest assured that there will be many more updates on the season as we inch ever closer to all important dates!
