TV Quick Hits: ‘This Is Us’ casts ‘Westworld’ actor; ‘The Defenders’ teaser; ‘The Odd Couple’ tribute

Given that we’ve spent a good bit of time discussing “This Is Us” as of late, why not kick off this edition of TV Quick Hits with another reminder that this show has an opportunity right now to get almost any actor that they want?

According to Variety, the NBC drama has officially landed Jimmi Simpson of “Westworld” fame for an upcoming episode, where he will play a Wall Street Trader by the name of Andy Fannan. We know that he will do some work alongside Randall (Sterling K. Brown), but that is the only thing that’s been officially confirmed as of this moment. There is no official air date for this episode just yet, either.

As for some other news from the day…

“The Odd Couple” plots tribute to Garry Marshall – Given Marshall’s impact on just about all of entertainment, this is not surprising in the least. CBS has confirmed that the November 7 episode will be in many ways a tribute to the man who was one of the chief minds around the original “Odd Couple.” Marion Ross, Ron Howard, Anson Williams and Don Most of “Happy Days” are all going to appear in this episode, and they will be joined by “Laverne & Shirley” alumni Cindy Williams and Penny Marshall, the late Garry’s real-life daughter. Pam Dawber of “Mork & Mindy” will also be turning up.

It’s hard to say what this episode will look like, but kudos to CBS for the decision to put this celebration together.

“The Defenders” teaser – The video from the show’s official Twitter account hypes up the appearance of two important characters in the upcoming team-up series: Simone Missick (Misty Knight) and Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page). Unfortunately, you’re probably going to be waiting until later next year to see this, given that “The Defenders” is still very much in the early stages of getting ready to go.
