‘Arrow’ season 5 spoilers: Show boss teases comic references galore with Adrian Chase

Arrow -The character of District Attorney Adrian Chase is going to be a fun one to watch over the course of the coming weeks on “Arrow” season 5. For one, you’ve got a great actor in Josh Segarra playing him, and to go along with that, you’ve got someone here who has a certain degree of comic-book destiny, given that in the source material, he goes on the become the character Vigilante.

While the show doesn’t always pull material directly from the DC Comics source material (it has to make many changes, especially since there aren’t all that many Oliver Queen adversaries in the comics), it seems as though one of the things that they are doing specifically with this character is creating him with comic fans in mind. Speaking per Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Marc Guggenheim passed along the following message all about him:

“What’s kind of fun about the way we’re writing Adrian, and the way we’re portraying Josh’s character, is we’re writing with the knowledge that the audience has a certain amount of comic book knowledge. If they don’t, if you’re not a comic book fan, it’ll fly over your head and it’s totally fine; it’s like an adult joke in a Pixar movie. But if you are familiar with the comic, then you’ll probably interpret certain scenes in a very specific way, and that’s fun for us. I don’t think we’ve ever really done it in this fashion before, use what I call their comic book destiny as part of the storytelling.”

Specifically, you can expect to see much more when it comes to Adrian’s character and his journey on the seventh episode of the season.
