‘The Blacklist’ season 4, episode 5 review: Did Liz learn the truth on Alexander Kirk?

The Blacklist logo any seasonHow much did Liz Keen trust Alexander Kirk on “The Blacklist”? We don’t think all that much, but at the same time, she is the sort of person who has to figure out to trust someone. After all, Reddington hasn’t made a history out of telling her the complete truth, and even Tom last week kept his plan to take Agnes back a secret from her.

Luckily for Tom, his marriage didn’t exactly fall apart as a result of this. She largely forgave him for his act, feeling largely as though he was just trying to do the best that he could to help her. She and Red did their part to execute a new plan of their own, but unfortunately it was one without a desired end. Agnes is still out there, and in some ways, it feels like Liz, Red, and Tom are largely spinning their wheels … or are they? Tom was able to find some DNA evidence that was very eye-opening, and some that showed that Red may have been lying to Liz for some time … again. It showed supposedly that Kirk was really her father, but Red didn’t seem to be all that upset about it. We suppose that we’re convinced that Kirk is the dad for now, but given this show’s trickery we’re liable to change our mind next week if some other compelling evidence is presented! Time will tell.

In moving towards the story-of-the-week component this time around, this was particularly dangerous because of a hostage situation, one involving a man named Silas who goes after revolutionaries. He wanted to be able to “save” wonderful innovations and keep corporations and ensure that they don’t fall into the wrong hands. He’s like someone who locks the door on “Shark Tank” and doesn’t let anyone meet Mr. Wonderful. The Task Force managed to resolve the crisis, and at the end of the day, the person in the most danger was probably Ressler for going after his “boss’s boss’s boss’s boss.”

To balance out all of the intensity, there was something fun / awkward about watching Amar’s new girlfriend give Samar a call and ask for ideas on his perfect date after flooding his bathroom. Hopefully, this inspires her to make a move in due time … or maybe she already made one with that garlic chicken in mind!

Grade: B+. The Amar / Samar stuff, coupled with the DNA surprised, helped to lift a few stories that are started to get stagnant.
