Is ‘Dancing with the Stars’ new tonight on ABC? The schedule switcheroo

DWTS -

The past few weeks for fans of “Dancing with the Stars” have probably felt like a callback to some of the early years, when the show routinely had two or three hours of programming all to itself on ABC.

Unfortunately, the tradition of having results shows on Tuesday night is going to be coming to a close tonight. As show host Tom Bergeron noted last night, we are no longer getting a double-dose of the show. We’re shifting back to a once-a-week format for the remainder of the season, and tonight the network is airing a new comedy block in its place before a new episode of “Agents of SHIELD” comes on the air at 10:00 p.m. Eastern.

In a way, this is a shame for fans who enjoy this format, though we will concede that for the most part, there is a ton of filler on these results shows. With a smaller amount of Stars left, keeping everything confined to one two-hour episode a week is a little easier, and it may also keep it from feeling as saturated in the market. We do think that limiting the show’s time helped the ratings over the past couple of years, especially since the results shows were getting some lower numbers.

Rest assured that no matter the coverage of the show on ABC, it’s not going to alter in any way how we do coverage of the show here! We’re going to have rankings, dance spoilers, and of course a results preview as we get into the next new episode. We just have a little longer now to figure out who could be leaving the competition than we did previously.
