‘The Walking Dead’ season 7: It’s all about Negan

Negan -

The Walking Dead” is premiering on AMC come Sunday, October 23, and in releasing the latest key art for the season above, the network is doing one thing: Reminding us that this is a show really all about Negan at the moment.

Given how season 6 ended, can you really be surprised that they are sticking the character everywhere they possibly can? You really shouldn’t be. Not only is he the strongest villain the show has had since The Governor, throwing him everywhere at present solves one of the show’s biggest problems: the majority of its cast has their future hanging in the balance. While we’d like to believe that Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus are sticking around on the show for a while longer, there’s no real confirmation of that. AMC doesn’t want to tip their cap by throwing out there a character who survives into their promotional art, and therefore causing some people to assume they are okay.

In the premiere episode you’re going to learn the truth about who Negan kills, but this will be just the beginning of his reign of terror. He will try to form a stranglehold on Alexandria, cause all sorts of chaos, and do everything that he can to ensure that everyone within Rick’s group is afraid of him. Whether or not it works in the long-term remains to be seen, but we have to think that these are people who will not go quietly into the night.

Also, maybe “we’re just getting started” is evidence that the show could go on for another 2,000 seasons.
