‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 10 premiere review: Did Leonard, Penny get married — again?

Big Bang -At the start of “The Big Bang Theory” season 9, Leonard and Penny were legally married. It’s hard to take things for the two of them to another level after that, but the series did just that on Monday’s episode with a vow renewal like no other! There were guest stars aplenty, and almost every moment of it hit in what turned out be a really funny way to celebrate the marriage of these two characters.

Now that we’ve said that, the most iconic moment of the episode probably is not the ceremony itself; instead, we’re looking towards Sheldon (who else?) and some of his latest antics. He was obsessed over the idea of his mother sleeping with Leonard’s father, and in some ways he embarked on a witch hunt to stop this relationship in its tracks. There were histrionics, silly moments, and in the end, a realization that there wasn’t much he could do. While there was no coitus involved, they may still continue a relationship … and in the end, the two tried to fade into the background, knowing that this big day was not meant to be about them in the first place.

This led to some of the episode’s sweet moments, from Bernadette serving as officiant to Sheldon calling Leonard his family. even Penny’s wacky family, including her mother (Katey Sagal) and brother (Jack McBrayer), were very good in limited screen time.

If there is one criticism we could offer up for the premiere, it’s that there were so many guest stars that Howard meeting a certain member of the Air Force (Dean Norris) interested in his technology felt almost like an after-thought. We just wish that they had held on to this until later if there was not going to be much time for it. We’d still argue in the end that this is the “Big Bang Theory” premiere made for longtime fans, and while it didn’t necessarily give us anything new in terms of comedy, we were entertained from start to finish. Grade: A-.
