Cable ratings: ‘The Last Ship’ enters season 4 steady; ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ recovers

Last Ship -

Given that this past Sunday was the first night for regular-season football, we were certainly curious to see if that coverage was going to put in a dent in some other shows airing over the course of the night.

As it turns out, the NFL didn’t have too big of an impact at all for at least two of the bigger cable shows airing on the night.

The Last Ship” – In closing out season 3, the TNT drama starring Eric Dane managed to score a 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and also 2.3 million viewers. The latter measure is a slight increase versus the prior episode, and in general these figures are in line with much of the season 3 average. While there’s no immediate jeopardy for this show (it’s already been renewed for two more seasons), we are happy to see that the numbers are staying at a pretty high level.

Fear the Walking Dead” – Meanwhile, the news was very good for a certain AMC zombie drama! One week after the show posted a series-low rating in the demo, we saw it recover up to a 1.5 rating. While this is still a shell of the ratings it was getting at the start of the season, the network should be happy if it stays through here over the final episodes, especially given the spike in competition coming up. (“Fear the Walking Dead” has also already been renewed, so there isn’t anything to really worry about here, either.) We’ll continue to have some ratings on this show through the remainder of the season.

Note here that we are just talking about live+same day figures, and we assume that there will be some increases when you start to factor in DVR recordings and much more.
