‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8 spoilers: Damon’s unfortunate spot

Damon -

We’re not sure that we would call Damon Salvatore the Big Bad of “The Vampire Diaries” season 8, mostly because at the end of the day we don’t quite consider him to be a villain at all. He’s just someone who is now in an extremely precarious position, and is basically being brainwashed against his own will. The same goes for Enzo, judging from what we saw at the end of season 7.

So how are the powers-that-be describing his situation? for now, let’s turn that over to executive producer Julie Plec, who answered that question to Entertainment Weekly with the following:

“Damon has unfortunately become a little bit of a servant to an evil who has an opinion on what should happen to people who do bad things … He’s a little bit of a minion at the moment, and we’ll have to learn who he’s a minion for and why.”

Damon’s set of circumstances are likely tied to one of the final Big Bads of the season, and the challenge for the other characters seems pretty apparent: How in the world do you snap him out of it / make him realize the error of his ways? It could be as simple as bringing people he cares about such as Stefan and Bonnie, or it could be as complicated as having to execute a series of missions that could in turn help him snap out of his current haze.

One way or another, we presume that we will get our answer when the final season of the show premieres at some point this October.
