NBC’s ‘The Voice’ singer Darby Walker has ‘Girl Meets world’ connection

Voice

On this past episode of “The Voice,” much of America was introduced for the first time to Darby Walker, a young singer who moved to Hollywood in hopes of trying to make her dreams come true. She made it past the first hoop, as she ended up joining Miley Cyrus as the first member of her team.

As it turns out, some eagle-eyed “Girl Meets World” fans may have been somewhat familiar with Walker already. She has appeared as the character Darby, one of the classmates of Riley Matthews (Rowan Blanchard), on several different episodes of “Girl Meets World.” Therefore, following her appearance, it is certainly not a surprise that she has received some support from that community, including the show’s writers room and also the family of star August Maturo. (His mother tends to run his Twitter account.)

Following her blind audition, Walker will then head over to the Battle Rounds for a chance at continuing her run, and then jump over to the Knockout Rounds. Interestingly, we have even more parallels now between her and Cyrus given that both of them have spent some time working on sitcoms. They should have a good collaboration so long as Darby can continue to impress on her team.

Unfortunately, fans of “The Voice” are going to have to wait until we get around to September to see the next new episode air. At that point, we’ll have a chance to see if there are any other performers on the show with some sort of defined TV connection.
