NBC’s ‘The Voice’ preview: Blake Shelton, Miley Cyrus, coaches to perform ‘Dream On’

The Voice -

Sunday night’s preview for “The Voice” will be airing following the conclusion of the Closing Ceremonies, and while you cannot exactly expect this to be an enormous show packed full of singers, hopefully there will be a Blind Audition or two that stands out and could make it far over the course of the season.

What we can at least tell you is the opening number that all of the coaches will perform: “Dream On.” The news on the Aerosmith cover comes courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, and we can only hope that it will be exciting enough to remember and talk about for longer than a few minutes after it happens. We do have to be honest here when we say that by and large, these coaches’ covers to start off the season rarely excite us at all. More often than not, they come across as hokey, and they’re a real challenge since you are more or less throwing four very different singers into one arrangement and hoping the combination turns out okay.

Here, we imagine that it’ll be even stranger since you have a pop singer (Miley Cyrus), a rock star (Adam Levine), an R&B / soul superstar (Alicia Keys), and of course country icon Blake Shelton all trying to harmonize. We can only imagine who is the soul brave enough to go for that huge note at the end of the song.

Tomorrow night, we’ll be back with more on “The Voice,” including our take on the performers taking part! Stay tuned…
