‘Call the Midwife’ season 6: Miranda Hart not returning as planned

Call the Midwife -

While at one point it seemed official that Miranda Hart would be staging a big return to “Call the Midwife” on the BBC, we now come bearing some rather-sad news: It’s not happening, after all, for the upcoming sixth season.

In a series of posts on Twitter, Hart cites her busy schedule as the primary reason why she will not be taking part as originally planned. Of course, hearing this is somewhat of a bummer since she was such a shining light in the early seasons, but at the same time it’s hardly much of a surprise given that she is one of the busier actresses working these days. Hopefully, at some point down the road we are going to get an opportunity to see her surface in some shape or form again.

In addition to sharing her personal lament at not being a part of the show, Hart did praise new cast member Dame Harriet Walter, who could be bringing her own unique energy to Nonnatus House and help to fill the void left by Sister Evangelina after the character’s death at the end of season 5.

Season 6 of the series is going to premiere in 2017 on BBC One and PBS. Before that, there will be a Christmas Special airing later this year (natch) that will feature many of the characters in South Africa. There, we’ll get a chance to see them completely out of their element, trying to rely on some of their most basic of skills.
