‘The Flash’ season 3: Savitar through the lens of other villains

FlashWho is Savitar? In the Flash comic books, he’s a shirtless dude with super-speed who can also manipulate the speed of others at times. He’s a super-crazy villain, and in terms of costuming alone we figure the CW “Flash” will have a field day. That’s without thinking about whoever will play the guy.

There’s also a problem with him thanks to the annals of this show: Why him, and why now? Do we really need another speedster after the Reverse-Flash and Zoom? Are we just going to get faster and faster villains to the point where the series finale features Barry instantly transporting to other parts of the world? Could he be his own personal Tardis? Okay, we’ll stop asking questions since we’ll get carried away with that.

What we do want to share is an insistence via executive producer Todd Helbing that Savitar will be different, but in ways that are “wait-and-see” as opposed to anything that he’s going to tell you now. Why would he? The new season’s still a good 1.5 months away! Take a look, per IGN, at what he had to say:

“Savitar is more of a psychological villain in a weird way. I think the Hindu word for Savitar means God of Speed; he’s all about speed. Everything about this guy is different. I can’t go into super detail, but he’s not like Zoom or Reverse Flash.”

In general, expect season 2 to restore a little bit of lightness after season 2 took a dark turn, and we’re not just talking about Zoom’s speedster-suit. We also had the villain killing Henry Allen, dragging Barry around Central City like a rag doll, and tormenting Caitlin Snow in incredibly uncomfortable ways. Savitar and Doctor Alchemy a.k.a. the other Big Bad will capture more of the season 1 spirit, and per Helbing, they’re also going to have some things in common.

Of course, Doctor Alchemy has the ability to manipulate elements; think Wonder Twins, but about a thousand times cooler.
