‘Twin Peaks’ revival: Showtime head on ‘unconventional’ release strategy

Showtime -There are many different shows to look forward to in 2017, whether it be the third and final season of “The Leftovers,” “The Defenders” coming together for Netflix, or the latest season of “Fargo” whenever it comes out.

For nostalgia-heavy TV fans, the main even of the new year could be the release of “Twin Peaks,” which has been long in development as David Lynch is taking his time to put the product together. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series could come out starting in the first half of next year, but it may not follow the traditional Showtime viewing pattern.

In discussing this further, network head David Nevins had the following to say per the website:

“[It will be] unconventional in the handling of it and how we put it out in the world and how we market it … I think it is quite possible we’re not going to do a traditional release pattern. I’ve had a couple conversations with David. But I want to embrace the unexpectedness of it, so I could definitely see longer episodes or in terms of this question of how do we release it linearly and how do we release it for people who want to stream it — maybe there’s something different between the two.”

Ultimately, we’re not too concerned about the release strategy so long as the story is worthwhile, though personally we’d prefer if the episodes are spaced out and we don’t end up getting all of them at once. We’re still a big believer that while binge-watching is fun, it is still nice sometimes to sit down and savor a really good show.

We’ll have some further news on the revival once we start to know more; for now, be sure to head over here to get some further TV news on all we cover sent to you, courtesy of our official CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: Showtime.)
