‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 8 spoilers: ‘V,’ ‘The 4400’ alum cast as…

tvd -For the final season of “The Vampire Diaries,” could we have a chance to learn a certain bit more about Matt Donovan? That is certainly a possibility, especially given the latest casting intel that we have at present.

Per Entertainment Weekly, Joel Gretsch (“V,” the super-underrated “The 4400”) has been cast in the role of Peter Maxwell. Per the casting description, he is “a blue-collar guy who abandoned his family a long time ago. He is shocked when his grown son walks back into his life to reconnect — and to drag Peter into a world of supernatural dangers.”

If we are to put on a detective cap, we do think that this one is fairly easy to figure out. There are not many characters on the show likely to have a living father out there, and we’re assuming that the son is someone we know given that otherwise, we don’t know what the point of meeting this character is. All signs point to him being more than likely Matt Donovan’s father, given that this would be an interesting addition to the world and someone who could provide a heck of a lot more insight.

Also, we’re hoping that every characters is offered up some sort of closure in one way or another before the series comes to a conclusion. For Matt, that closure could come in the form of meeting his father, understanding where he comes from, and also figuring out where he wants to go moving forward.
