‘Halt and Catch Fire’ season 3 spoilers: Matthew Lillard scores major role

Interestingly, AMC’s “Halt and Catch Fire” is starting to look more and more like FX’s “The Bridge” for the upcoming third season. Earlier this year, it was reported that Annabeth Gish (also known for “The X-Files” and “Sons of Anarchy”) was aboard as a venture capitalist, and we’re also now learning that Matthew Lillard is aboard.

Per Entertainment Weekly, the actor (who also had a recent appearance on “The Good Wife” and had amazing chemistry with Cush Jumbo) will be playing the major recurring role of Ken Diebold, a smart, savvy, and very collected businessman who has a little bit of a Wall Street-meets-West Coast vibe to him. He will be an investor in the latest venture from Lee Pace’s character of Joe MacMillan over the course of the third season.

Basically, we see this casting as a win all around. Lillard has to us been one of the most underrated actors of the past several years, and we’re still amazed that he did not book even more roles following his work on “The Bridge.” For him to join one of TV’s most-underrated shows is a nice win all around.

The third season of “Halt and Catch Fire” (premiering on AMC August 23 with a two-hour premiere) is going to be moving over to Silicon Valley, where we will see many of the characters try to contend with the blossoming tech industry there. It’s a story that will run for ten episodes, and we can only hope that the presence of Netflix and time have led to more people discovering precisely how amazing the show is.
