TV Quick Hits: ‘Fresh Off the Boat’ heads to Taiwan; ‘American Crime’ season 3 casting; ‘BrainDead’ falls further

“Fresh Off the Boat” takes on a new challenge – We begin this particular edition of TV Quick Hits by discussing something that is in many ways historic: “Fresh Off the Boat” moving to another part of the world for an upcoming episode. According to Vulture, the season 3 premiere is going to be filmed in Taiwan next week, which was something that was alluded to back during the season 2 finale with Louis proclaiming that he wants to fix things with his brother Gene.

Speaking per the website, executive producer Nahnatchka Khan makes it clear why this particular decision was important:

“[The movie is] a callback to the pilot episode, where the Huangs arrive in Orlando, the quintessential ‘fish out of water.’ Now they’re in Taiwan, and even though Jessica and Louis were born there, the boys weren’t — they were born in America and have never been out of the country.

“It’s that idea of not quite fitting into either place, of being both Asian and American. That’s a really cool thing we’re excited to explore.”

“American Crime” confirms Timothy Hutton return – While this was definitely expected, we’re now hearing for certain that Hutton will be back. However, all executive producers John Ridley and Michael McDonald are saying for now is that the actor is going to “shock the audience in a darker twisted turn as a wealthy man struggling to keep his family and fortune” together. It’s an interesting part, and we’re curious as to what happens.

“BrainDead” falls further – Given that the CBS drama drew just a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic after its move to Sundays, we’re starting to wonder if it will even get to finish its first season on the air.
