‘Big Brother 18’ review: The Battle Back winner; the secret room twist
Tonight’s “Big Brother 18” episode was like almost no other, mostly because there’s never been a twist quite like the Battle Back Competition. At the end of this episode, someone had a chance to re-enter the game, and it certainly proved itself to be a thrilling journey to get there. We had at least some drama across various battles, but in the end, there was only one winner: Victor.
Do we feel for some of the other evicted houseguests? Definitely, and that is especially the case when you stop for a moment and think about circumstances. Based on the setup of the competitions in the backyard, it looked as though these people did them immediately after the Head of Household Competition was held. Therefore, someone like Glenn may have been stuck in sequester the past few weeks for almost no purpose at all.
At least there was something resembling fairness within most of these, given that we didn’t just have physical competitions the whole way through. We do think that Victor was beatable in either of the battles against Bronte and Tiffany, sense there was a puzzle or memory component to them. He just happened to finish first.
Given that so much of this story was straightforward, there’s nothing to really say other than that Victor’s reaction to reentering the house is proof that he is not the ideal returnee to the game. He’s too cocky, and shows off his competition strength more than any dominant player should. Granted, he had to win, but being so over-the-top about it may not have been the best look.
Perhaps the more interesting element in the long-term here is a Secret Room within the house, one that can be uncovered using some clues. We’re not sure how perceptive the players will be to it, but we certainly hope that it is discovered by an underdog and used to full effect. There are definitely people in the game who need it. Episode Grade: B+ (even if we were pulling for Glenn or Tiffany to go back).
