‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 10: Katey Sagal to play Penny’s mom!

We had a feeling that there could be some tremendous “The Big Bang Theory” scoop from the show’s writers’ panel at San Diego Comic-Con, and lo and behold, the group came through!

Specifically, we had the announcement that none other than “Married… with Children” and “Sons of Anarchy” alum Katey Sagal would be coming aboard the series in the role of Penny’s mother! It’s a part many fans have been wanting to see on the show for some time, and it’s interesting given that Sagal also played Kaley Cuoco’s mother on another sitcom in “8 Simple Rules.” Ultimately, we’d say that this is brilliant casting, and it goes along with the show’s pattern of booking iconic sitcom names for guest spots.

We already know that Keith Carradine is Penny’s father on the show, and we hope both of these actors are turning up early on in season 10. While Penny and Leonard (Johnny Galecki) are technically already married, we do expect that some sort of vow renewal ceremony with friends and family is in the cards for early this season. That is why we had our first appearance of Judd Hirsch at the end of season 9, and also why Christine Baranski returned, as well.

Hopefully, we get to meet even more family members as we go throughout the upcoming season. We’re not sure how much time the series has left on the air, so we’d love to see as many notable faces as possible before then.

Update: We also now know that “30 Rock” alum Jack McBrayer will play Penny’s brother.
