‘Pretty Little Liars’ season 7, episode 5 review: Did Ezra propose to Aria?

PLL -

Going into Tuesday night’s new episode of “Pretty Little Liars,” there was one moment in particular that we know many people were waiting for: The proposal. It was hyped up in endless commercials, but up until a few minutes from the finale, it was still not clear what was going to happen.

Instead, most of this episode was spent dealing with speculation as to what Jenna really wanted, whether or not she was working with Archer, and more or less the perpetual state of danger that Alison was in.

Then, we got to the proposal, which we have to say was rather romantic and different! Here’s the problem that we have with it: Why in the world did Freeform promote this in advance? In doing so, they really ruined the element of surprise here since this otherwise would have caught us completely off-guard. Given that we anticipated it, we spent most of the episode looking for it.

Now, let’s handle the cliffhanger of it all, shall we? Of course we didn’t get an answer tonight! The show’s making you wait a good two weeks. We’re not sure why Aria hesitated, but maybe it is due to not wanting to cause him even more stress in his life thanks to all of her drama, which includes of a course a certain murder from a couple of weeks back.

On a different, less-romantic note, who else is worried about the team-up of Sara and Jenna? We certainly cannot see that ending well. This provided us some nice intrigue, but as intense as some of this episode was, it is stopped from greatness thanks to the marketing efforts of its network spoiling the surprise for the sake of ratings. Grade: B.
