TV Quick Hits: ‘Maya & Marty’ books Amy Poehler; ‘Dead of Summer’ ratings; ‘Gilmore Girls’ teases

“Maya & Marty” may still be a little hit-or-miss with some of their sketches, but they have done some very-funny stuff since their inception. Not only that, but they’ve also done a rather great job booking their guests, who include everyone from Steve Martin to Drake.

Who do they have signed up for Tuesday’s episode? It’s another rather-impressive crew of folks who, like many others we’ve seen, have some sort of “Saturday Night Live” connection in Amy Poehler, Will Forte, and Jerry Seinfield. While Jerry was never a cast member, he has made appearances there over the years and surely knows both Maya Rudolph and Martin Short well from the comedy world.

As for some other news on the day…

Is “Dead of Summer” dead? – We were hoping that the new Freeform series would buck the trend of many other freshman summer series bombing, but it’s not off to an amazing start with just a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic for its premiere and around 630,000 viewers tuning in. It had a great lead-in courtesy of “Pretty Little Liars,” so this just shows more than ever how hard it is to convince people to give new shows a chance in the Netflix / streaming era. Hopefully, its numbers will at least stay steady the remainder of the season.

A “Gilmore Girls” mystery role – In casting both Sutton Foster and Stacey Oristano on the Netflix revival, it’s almost like creator Amy Sherman-Palladino is paying tribute to two of her fan favorite shows in one! In speaking to TVInsider about her mystery role on “Gilmore Girls,” though Oristano was not exactly open about what her role would be beyond the following tease:

“I’m not in Stars Hollow … I cause trouble in other places.”
