‘Arrow’ season 5 spoilers: ‘The McCarthys’ alum joins Star City PD

Arrow -With the fifth season of “Arrow” getting set to film, the show really is putting forth its best effort to shore up its cast with interesting names. For the most part, we like how most of these castings appear to be setting the stage for a dark, gritty tone that is similar in part to the first two seasons of the show.

It’s ironic that we say all of this, and the latest casting we have to report on is someone best known for doing a comedy in “The McCarthys.” As first reported by THR, Tyler Ritter is going to recur as Detective Malone, a man who could be one of the most significant presences in the world of Star City police-wise now that Quentin Lance is no longer with the force. Of course, Paul Blackthorne is still a series regular, so rest assured that you will find some other way to see him around. (We do feel for Quentin, probably the most tragic character on the entire series at this point.)

There is not really a whole lot else that is known about this Malone character at the moment, though we do expect him to have a very important role in many of the events to come this season. After all, there is a need for a strong police force in Star City, and we know that the District Attorney’s office is going to be very much involved even with Laurel Lance dead. Josh Segarra of “Chicago PD” fame has already been brought in to play a new District Attorney.

“Arrow” will premiere with all-new episodes on The CW come Wednesday, October 5 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time.
