‘Lucifer’ season 2 spoilers: Tricia Helfer on being title character’s mom

Earlier this week, it was first revealed that former “Battlestar Galactica” star Tricia Helfer was boarding the second season of “Lucifer,” and in the process playing a role that could prove to be enormously important: The title character and Amenadiel’s mother. It’s certainly fair to ask questions as to how in the world this is, given that she and series star Tom Ellis are only a few years apart in age, and she definitely doesn’t look the part.

However, remember that this is a world of fantasy! Therefore, anything can happen, and for the most part anything does happen. In speaking about this part to TVLine while at the Saturn Awards recently, Helfer herself described the part with the following:

“I heard it put, ‘She’s not really that much older [than Lucifer and Amenadiel].’ But it will all make sense once you see it … very quickly once you meet her, you realize what she’s about and who she is. So we’re not going to leave people guessing. There’s been enough of that with the concern that she’s escaped from Hell.”

The second season to us is interesting mostly because we now do get so many more opportunities to know these characters than before. It feels in many ways like the first season was meant to set up the premise, meet the characters, and understand the world; now, there’s a chance to really dive in further to understand who these people are and what makes them tick.

“Lucifer” season 2 premieres on Fox this fall.
