Could ‘Penny Dreadful’ season 4 renewal come before finale?

We’re now just a few days away from the season 3 finale of “Penny Dreadful,” and yet, we’re still sitting around and wondering a very important question: Is this show going to actually come back for more?

The time for comparing this waiting process to last year is effectively over and done with now, given that Showtime had already renewed the series at this particular point in the season. We’re now in more uncharted waters, and it is understandable to raise questions about the future of the show. The ratings aren’t great compared to other shows in premium cable, and while it may be a co-production, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it is worth the money or space on the schedule for Showtime anymore.

Are there still some specific reasons to keep it? Beyond a shadow of a doubt, yes.

1. Eva Green – We’re not just saying this because we personally find the actress amazing; if you have someone who is a bona fide Emmy contender on your show, it makes some sense to try to keep the around. It doesn’t really matter if the ratings are less than great, since this is added publicity for both the show and a reminder to potential viewers that your network is a beacon of great content.

2. Closing it off properly – You have spent three years in this story and with these characters. don’t you think you owe it to some of the diehard fans to try to see it off properly with a series finale? Even if it’s a short six-episode final season, we think so.

3. There’s nothing else like it – Sure, there is “Once Upon a Time,” but we don’t exactly think that’s the same demo.
