‘Doctor Who’ season 10 spoilers: Matt Lucas returning as Nardole

Doctor Who -Following his big first appearance during the recent “Doctor Who” Christmas Special “The Husbands of River Song,” the folks over at the BBC have not taken an altogether long time to realize that they’d really like to have Matt Lucas back for more!

Today, the network confirmed that the actor will be returning as Nardole for at least one more episode this season. There’s not exactly a whole lot known about the circumstances of his return, but he did have the following to say in a statement:

“I’m chuffed to bits that Nardole is returning to the TARDIS for some more adventures … I loved acting with Peter [Capaldi] and I’m excited to work with Pearl [Mackie].”

Meanwhile, showrunner Steven Moffat offered up a few more thoughts of his own on the subject:

“Delighted and slightly amazed to be welcoming Matt Lucas back on to the TARDIS — and this time it’s not just for Christmas, he’s sticking around. One of the greatest comedy talents on planet Earth is being unleashed on all of time and space.”

You will first see Nardle in the premiere, and based off of that, we do certainly think that it is possible that “sticking around” means that he will get some other chances to shine, as well. That’s an exciting proposition, since with the arrival of someone new to the show in Mackie comes a slightly different world. If there’s someone you want to be a part of it, odds are that it is someone like Matt Lucas.

The new season will premiere in 2017.
