‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 13 debate: Should Meredith, Riggs become a couple?

Grey's -Mrs. Carter: Meredith Grey has found herself in another pickle…

The producers of “Grey’s Anatomy” did admittedly throw us for a little bit of a loop when it comes to the introduction of Martin Henderson and his character of Nathan Riggs. When we first heard that he was coming aboard the show, we and so many others automatically assumed that he was going to romance Ellen Pompeo’s character in some capacity. However, then he became involved in this lengthy story with Owen that explored their shared past, and we forgot all about the notion of Meredith having a new love interest after the death of Derek.

Then, the end of the season rolled around! There’s obviously chemistry between Meredith and Riggs, and there is also a little bit of the element that comes from her resisting the relationship that makes it in turn all the more appealing to her. She’s not allowing herself to commit, and that adds some mystery and unpredictability into what may have been becoming a routine life, even in her hectic job.

In some obvious ways, Meredith and Riggs are good for each other. They’re both medical professionals, and they understand each other career-wise. Also, they’ve both been through tragedy and can relate to each other in a real way there.

As for the negatives that come with such a possible pairing, there is still the tension between Riggs and Owen, and when you consider that Owen is now married to her sister-in-law Amelia, and was married to her “person” Cristina, things could get messy. They could get even messier because of how Maggie already feels about Riggs, not knowing that Meredith has already been with him. We hope that if there is a coupling in the near future, someone at least clues in Maggie sooner rather than later. Otherwise, it’s not ending particularly well.

What do you think: Should Meredith and Riggs give it a real go, despite whatever sort of awkwardness is there with Maggie?
