‘Once Upon a Time’ season 6 debate: Should Regina get a new love interest anytime soon?

Regina -Mrs. Carter: Is it too soon to be thinking about love for Regina?

Granted, it was only mere episodes ago on “Once Upon a Time” that we saw the character (played by Lana Parrilla) lose someone regarded as the great love of her life (or at least one of them) in Robin Hood. That death has left her in a devastated place, and for at least a time in the two-hour finale, there were questions about whether or not the Evil Queen would come back out. It turned out that she did, but in a slightly-different form than many people probably expect: She literally split from her body!

Now, we’re left to wonder now whether or not the character will ever find true love again, or even if she really needs to.

Here’s where the debate gets tricky for us: We don’t think Regina needs a man to be happy. Nobody in the world does! However, at the same time so many other characters on the show have received some sort of romantic happy ending (Emma / Hook, Snow / Charming) that it makes you wonder why she has to be exception and have two great loves die, only for her to end up single. If there is anyone who probably deserves love at this point, it is Regina. Granted, Emma has also been through a lot and lost someone she loved in Neal, but Regina is the master of getting the romantic rug pulled out from under us.

So we are open to there being a new love interest for the character cast at some point in the future, but this is the one thing we will say as a disclaimer: It really needs to be someone who Regina has an instant connection with, and they strike us as a great love almost right away. Nothing else will do, and you don’t want to see her have a love interest just for the sake of doing so.

Do you think that Regina should have another love by the end of the series? Vote right now in the attached poll.
