‘NCIS’ season 14 debate: Should Bishop have a new love interest soon?

Bishop -

Mrs. Carter: Will romance be a topic of discussion on “NCIS” next season?

We are certainly well aware of the fact that this is not at its core a romantic show. Instead, it’s a procedural about how the heroes of NCIS try to resolve crimes in the military, and find justice for victims who sorely need it. Yet, at the same time, we are about these people, and want to see what drives them to be as heroic as possible. This is where love interests come into play.

It feels like it has been a while now since Ellie Bishop has had much of a spotlight. She last had the cameras on her for an extended time this past fall, when her marriage to Jake came to a close due to some of his actions. As a Jamie Bamber fan, this certainly was saddening, but it does create many different story possibilities for Emily Wickersham to play.

With that, we’re excited to now dive into the all-important (or at least important to this article) question in the title: Should there be a new love interest next season?

The case for it – For one, you’re bringing in a new guest star, and it can be someone to further excite the fan base. Without Michael Weatherly, any notable name you can bring in is a nice touch. Also, it would be a chance to throw the somewhat-neurotic character out of her element somewhat. We can see a storyline being fun where someone is pursuing her and she doesn’t quite realize it; or, we could also see it interesting where she is in a situation where she has to pursue someone else. We’re not saying to make it into some sort of high-school drama with googly eyes, but tell it in an interesting, adult way. Many “NCIS” romances happen off-camera, so it’d be nice to see a shake-up.

The case against it – maybe you hate romance on this show, or simply feel like the character should be single longer. We don’t feel like they would be rushing her into anything if there was a new love interest in January or so, but we understand your argument. Sometimes, you just have to go with the flow, and it’d be understandable if you wanted to think from the standpoint of “wait and see.” For example, maybe you introduce a character who over time has some natural chemistry with Bishop. At that point, maybe you can see what happens.
