‘Fear the Walking Dead’ season 2: Show boss on character progression

The second season of “Fear the Walking Dead” has currently given us quite a few twists and turns so far, but one of the elements that may be somewhat frustrating for viewers at times is that we’ve routinely seen some of the characters, especially some of the younger ones, make some questionable decisions. Whether it is Nick, Chris, or Alicia, you’ve probably been left to scratch your head a few times here and there.

Of course, in some ways this is definitely all part of the plan. Speaking in a new interview with TVLine on the subject, showrunner Dave Erickson had the following to say:

“If you marked off the days [that have passed on air since Fear TWD debuted], I think right now, by the end of the first half [of Season 2], we’re getting very close to Rick waking up in Georgia [at the start of the flagship series] … [We have now] arrived at a place where they’re up to speed on how one deals with the apocalypse and the dead.”

We’re fine with some bumbling characters making poor zombie decisions, provided that it’s handled the right way. While we would say that “Fear” got off to a little bit of a slow start in the second season, it’s since recovered a little bit. More than anything else, what it really needed to do was find a way to get us acquainted with many of the characters. By the time they did that, the rest was all gravy.
