Looking at ‘Supergirl’ season 2 through ‘The Flash’ – Flashpoint lens

Supergirl -The second season of “Supergirl” is going to be premiering on The CW come later this year, and it’s certainly fair to raise a wide array of questions regarding how in the world this show will be different from what it was.

Logistically, we’ve already chronicled some of the changes. For example, we’re getting 22 episodes at least, and we’re also shifting the filming location from Los Angeles to Vancouver. The majority of the cast is expected to make the move, though the status of one Calista Flockhart is still unclear. (Our feeling is that she’ll still be around, albeit in a slightly smaller role than we’ve seen from her so far.)

Story-wise, here’s one question that probably should be talked about a little more than it has so far: What in the world is going to be coming up with Flashpoint now in effect over on “The Flash”? Basically, this means that Barry Allen went back in time on that show (per the season 2 finale) in order to save his mother Nora, and as a result of that, it’s likely that he never becomes The Flash anymore in the future. He won’t have the same drive to put himself in danger to clear his father’s name, because nothing will have happened to Henry at all.

Ultimately, this doesn’t impact “Supergirl” too much until you get to the events of “Worlds Finest.” There, Kara Danvers teamed up with Barry to defeat the one-two punch of Silver Banshee and Livewire. Maybe you could argue that if Barry is not there, and she finds a way to defeat them still using her powers and resources. However, what if that’s not the case, and the villains win in some capacity? It’d be interesting to explore, but at the same time we don’t see “Supergirl” committing to that much, since it’d mean that all of their viewers would need to be up to speed on “The Flash,” and many of them probably are not.
