‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 10: Why it’s time to meet Howard’s father

The Big Bang TheoryThe tenth season of “The Big Bang Theory” may not be premiering on CBS for some time, but we already know from some of the evidence out there that this is going to be a season of the show that is family-focused even more so than some other seasons that have come to date.

For example, we presume that the premiere will pick off in some way where the ninth season left off, with Leonard and Penny planning to give some sort of wedding ceremony to their families in return for missing the real thing. We have already met Leonard’s father (Judd Hirsch), and we imagine that early in the season we’ll have a chance to meet more of Penny’s family. (Odds are, they’ll be played by some sort of comedy legends … or so we hope.)

What we want to focus on here now is something that has been, rather unfortunately, a little less discussed as of late: Whether or not we could be meeting Howard Wolowitz’s father after so long. We’ve already had a chance to see his half-brother, and hopefully he will surface again in some way moving forward, as well. What we know about the guy is that he has a knack for abandoning people, and he left Simon Helberg’s character without a father figure for the vast majority of his life. We don’t know if anything can get the two on the same page, but it could be interesting to see story-wise.

Perhaps the most important reason to bring in Howard’s dad right now is that it would give the show a chance to really address and possibly tie together this storyline before we got around to Howard being a father himself. It’s a chance to go full-circle, and help him to determine if there is anything he wants to explore before he has some other priorities and focuses for his life. He hasn’t necessarily wanted that closure yet, but given that this is so large of a hanging chad, it would be an interesting idea to explore and give Howard his most emotional material since losing his mother.
