Should ‘Criminal Minds’ season 12 crossover more with ‘Beyond Borders’?

Criminal Minds -If there was a surprise that came out of the first season of the “Criminal Minds” spin-off “Beyond Borders,” it was how little the producers emphasized the connective tissue between it and the original series. Sure, there was the backdoor pilot, but why weren’t there more full crossovers planned between the two series?

It’s hard to necessarily come up with a precise answer to this question, but one of our theories is simply a matter of the uncertainty surrounding the spin-off. While we’re sure the producers knew it would be airing, it was hard to know when it would be airing in advance. With that, the show had to just plan to make these stories great in their own way without having to rely on the original.

Now that it is coming back for a second season, we’re love to see the two try to craft some more epic stories. After all, if you have both Gary Sinise and Thomas Gibosn at your disposal, isn’t there something that should require that you take advantage of that? If there’s not, there really should be. Giving the two some sort of epic event for May sweeps next year could add some more tension, and ratings, to each show. “Criminal Minds” proper has some challenges coming up, especially since they’ve recently lost a major character in Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore).

The only thing that could hold more crossovers back is the sole fact that there is still some premiere date uncertainty for “Beyond Borders.” We know that it is coming on at midsection, but when? We don’t know if it will be January or March, and that could be rough for the two shows to navigate in the planning process.
