‘Dancing with the Stars 23’ wishlist: Nostalgia, cast tweaks, and different themes

DWTS -

For the most part, we’re not sure you can look back at season 22 of “Dancing with the Stars” and proclaim it to be anything other than a sweeping success. Just remember for a minute here that over the course of this season, we have had some wonderful dances, emotional moments, and a fantastic story arc that led to Nyle DiMarco being declared the champion. He’s a worthy winner, but even if he had lost to Paige VanZant, we wouldn’t have been angry. Any season that gives you two perfect potential winner is worthy of celebration.

Yet, there is still room to grow, and there are a few things that ABC and the producers should learn while planning season 23.

1. More show nostalgia – One of the cool things about this seeing was seeing the return of Edyta, someone from the early seasons who we really liked and rooted for. How about bringing back some other longtime pros who’ve been gone from the show for a while? Why not someone like Cheryl Burke, Jonathan Roberts, or even more Louis van Amstel? We love getting updates on these former show staples and their lives.

2. Different casting – We don’t really need to see any more NFL players in a while. We’d prefer seeing some more baseball athletes, some more acting icons, some more comedians, and then also fewer current ABC employees. It wasn’t Ginger Zee’s fault, but we got really tired of all the truthers proclaiming that the only reason she made it far was because she worked for “Good Morning America.”

3. New theme weeks – We love Disney week, but most of the good songs have been taken now? Meanwhile, famous dances week was a little bit hokey. We’d love the return of dance decades, or something entirely new like bringing in a guest band and doing their entire catalogue? Or, what about a week where a choreographer has to incorporate a really cheesy dance move into a routine? What about something celebrating great moments in history, or guilty pleasures from around TV?

When it comes to repeats, we’d love to learn more about personal stories for some some of the pros.
