Is ‘The Amazing Race’ new tonight? When season 29 could premiere now

Amazing Race -

Friday night the past few weeks has brought us some great globe-trotting entertainment on “The Amazing Race” — and we say that without the Globetrotters being on this season. (Yep, that was some obvious humor there!)

So why aren’t we getting more tonight? Well, that answer is pretty simple: The season’s over! We had a chance to check out the season 28 finale last week, which brought us Dana & Matt as the champions of the social-media season.

Unfortunately, now the long wait begins for more “Amazing Race” action in America. In what has to be one of the most disappointing moves that we’ve see during upfronts this week, CBS opted to push season 29 to midseason, premiering their adaptation of “MacGyver” on Friday nights this fall instead. It’s a bummer, but we cannot pretend we’re surprised given that the ratings for this show haven’t been great in years.

Basically, we’re now thinking that it could be January or February until season 29 premieres, and of course this could in turn delay the start of season 30. While the future of the series is unclear, 30 is a nice, round number if this is where CBS decides to end the race for the time being. We don’t want that to happen, but we have to be ready for almost any possibility.

Of course, if you’re Canadian there is still more of the show to enjoy! The latest season of “The Amazing Race Canada” premieres later this summer, and we’ll have some coverage on that show in due time.
