‘The Flash’ season 3, ‘Arrow’ season 5 to take part in epic crossover event

FlashThat sound you heard in the background was that of four separate writers room spontaneously catching fire.

While at the upfront presentation today, The CW boss Mark Pedowitz effectively confirmed that there will be some sort of epic crossover event that could end up featuring all four of the show’s programs: “Supergirl,” “Arrow,” “The Flash,” and “Legends of Tomorrow.” We’re not sure it is 100% that every show will be involved in some shape or form, but we’re glad to see that the show really is being more ambitious than ever before.

The biggest challenge we envision at the moment here is just finding a way for everything to make sense. For “Supergirl,” for example, she’s in a very different world than the other shows. How do you bring some of those characters over? It was hard enough for Barry Allen to make a connection between National City and his own world; adding Oliver Queen into the mix would certainly be difficult … but it could be fun.

The obvious reason to make this move is rather simple: Ratings. “Arrow” tends to draw its biggest numbers of the season for the one week that it does a crossover with “The Flash,” and we figure a show like “Legends of Tomorrow” could definitely benefit from that. While it’s ratings have been okay for the first season, the general sentiment among many is that it is the weakest of the four shows and could use a little bit of a lift. Maybe this is a way to have that happen.
