Ratings: ‘Hawaii Five-0,’ ‘Amazing Race,’ and ‘The Vampire Diaries’ finales rise; ‘Grimm’ falls

The ratings for Friday night can be described in fairly simple terms: If you were a finale, your ratings probably improved. Otherwise, your ratings were probably either steady or down versus the most-recent week. It’s really not too hard in this instance to understand why this is: Nobody wants to get a finale spoiled by their friends! Therefore, the majority of them chose to watch some of these finales live rather than running the risk of having something ruined.

The good news – For fans of “The Amazing Race,” rejoice in that the show (which still had lower ratings throughout the season) did improve up to a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic for its season 28 finale. Meanwhile, “Hawaii Five-0” finished its season with a 1.2, and one week after drawing its worst numbers to date, “The Vampire Diaries” also turned things around with a 0.4. All of these shows are probably going to be on the bubble again next year, which is why it would not come as a huge shock if there were a couple of them that just chose to end things outright.

Still, we’re gonna have plenty of time to speculate on some of that! There’s no real reason to rush…

The bad news – For most other shows, there wasn’t too much movement. “The Originals” (0.3) is still low, “Grimm” (0.8) deflated slightly, and while “Beyond the Tank” technically improved to a 0.7, that’s not exactly great enough to make us think that it has a shot of getting more episodes made.
