‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 7 finale: Show boss on Nina Dobrev surprise

The latest -

Tonight, you could argue that the biggest surprise of “The Vampire Diaries” was seeing Damon and Enzo’s crazy turn after spending a stretch of time in the Armory; however, we would say that the biggest shock was even hearing Nina Dobrev’s voice, as a mysterious villain with her voice managed to lure Damon into the vault.

How did this come about? Basically, executive producer Julie Plec tells TVLine that Dobrev was kind enough to come in record a few lines after being asked. It’s as simple as that:

“In this particular case, she came in and did the ADR … I reached out and said, ‘We can either cobble it together from a bunch of episodes, or you can come in and see everybody and do ADR. She chose to do it in person, which was great, because it was a nice little personal Nina visit.”

The long-term ramifications here are perhaps the most interesting part of this, since it shows further that there is still a good relationship between Nina and the show that helped to turn her into an overnight star. We do think that she will come back whenever there is a series finale down the road, provided of course that the producers are aware of this beforehand. Let’s just hope this isn’t one of those cases where a network decides to make a move at the very last second without the writers being able to plan for it. Also, we’re still holding out hope for Damon and Elena in due time.
