‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 9, episode 24 (finale) review: Judd Hirsch arrives as Leonard’s dad

Finale -For the first time on “The Big Bang Theory,” we had a chance on Thursday night’s new episode to see an appearance from Leonard’s father! Judd Hirsch, a sitcom legend, took on the role, and with a span of a few short minutes, won us over to him. Alfred is a guy who certainly makes his thoughts clear, and did so often when it comes to an awkward wedding dinner that was a celebration of Leonard and Penny’s marriage.

Ultimately, the one word that we would use to describe most of this is strictly “funny,” since seeing Hirsch trade barbs with Christine Baranski and Laurie Metcalf was a lot of fun. Also, the same could be said for seeing some of the other characters squirm once Alfred and Mary started to hit on each other subtly. Hopefully, this means that we’re going to get some more of them moving forward to the new season.

The other story of the week revolved around a fairly surprising threat arriving at the doorstep of Raj and Howard: A letter from the government regarding a conversation over their recent innovation. This eventually led to one of the funnier moments of the night, as Howard, Raj, and Bernadette started to think that they were being followed.

Eventually, the majority of the characters did make it to the dinner, and there were some sweet moments in here, as well. The biggest disappointment here is that, for the most part, this was not an episode that really gave you much when it comes to a cliffhanger. It was just a strong episode anchored by a guest star. Hopefully, that’s enough for most of you. Grade: B+.
