‘Doctor Who’ season 10: Could John Barrowman return for Christmas Special?

Doctor Who -The tenth season of “Doctor Who” will not be premiering until early 2017, but before we get around to that, there is one other great thing worth looking forward to: The annual Christmas Special! This is even more exciting when you think for a moment or two about the possibility that John Barrowman could return as Captain Jack Harkness.

It’s been a long time since the universe has seen Captain Jack on the show, but in a new post on Facebook, Barrowman hinted that he would be returning to Cardiff soon (he is out promoting a new book), but would not give away why. As anyone who knows “Doctor Who” is familiar with, the series films in Cardiff, and therefore there is all of the incentive in the world for fans to start speculating that maybe he will be involved in the upcoming Special. This could also potentially be the introduction of Pearl Mackie into the franchise as the new companion Bill.

Why bring Barrowman back now? It’d be similar in some ways to the reasoning behind bringing back River Song. Given that Steven Moffat’s tenure as showrunner will be ending next year, it’s an opportunity for him to bring back another iconic character before he goes. Also, Barrowman’s beloved among show fans and in the science fiction community at large, so why not take advantage of this opportunity? It also works out logistically, given that “Arrow” (where he is a series regular) is on hiatus until most likely July.
