‘The Leftovers’ season 3 spoilers: Regina King, Christopher Eccleston, more will return

While there may not be too much known about “The Leftovers” season 3 other than that production is going to be moving eventually to Australia, we are at least pleased now to confirm the roster of people taking part in the show as regulars.

As first reported by TVLine, Justin Theroux, Carrie Coon, Amy Brenneman, Christopher Eccleston, Liv Tyler, Margaret Qualley, Chris Zylka, Janel Moloney, Regina King, Kevin Carroll, Jovan Adepo and Jasmin Savoy-Brown are all going to return. Meanwhile, Scott Glenn, who plays the father of Theroux’s Kevin Garvey, is also going to be promoted to series regular. We’re not entirely surprised based on executive producer Damon Lindelof’s affection for the character.

At the moment, the one omission here is fairly clear in Ann Dowd, who played Kevin’s tormentor Patti Levin. However, at the same time how do you bring her back? We loved the character, but there had to be closure to that story somewhere. “International Assassin” from last season provided that, and to brings her back beyond this would now feel rather cheap and a complete disservice to what happened there. (For the record, this may be one of our favorite episodes of any show of all time.)

There’s no firm premiere date for season 3 just yet, but it is poised to be the final chapter for a show that somehow may still be underrated. Do yourself a favor here if you subscribed to HBO for “Game of Thrones”: Go watch it. You’ll be glad you did, especially in the second season.
