‘The Flash’ season 2 finale spoilers: It’s Barry vs. Zoom in ‘The Race of His Life’

What has been the true plan of Zoom throughout “The Flash” in season 2? We’re excited to find out still more about this character … though you’re going to have to wait until the May 14 finale in order to see it.

The title for this episode is “The Race of His Life,” and this week The CW released the full synopsis. Unfortunately, this does not exactly give a whole lot away about what to expect:

“After Zoom (guest star Teddy Sears) reveals his true plan, Barry (Grant Gustin) vows to do whatever it takes to stop him.”

What we can say right now is that this episode will finally resolve the mystery of who is behind the iron mask, and all indications are that it will be a crazy, shocking, and satisfying reveal. Given that Sears has a new TV gig elsewhere, we have to assume that we won’t be seeing too much of Zoom one way or another after this. That’s somewhat of a shame here, if for no other reason than that we’ve really enjoyed seeing him.

Of course, remember that even if the Zoom story is over, that doesn’t necessarily mean that he is dead. This show has so many other ways to trap its villains, and there are other conventions such as time travel and multiple earths also at play. With some shows, we’d find all of this a cop-out; here, though, the tone and the style of the show makes it fun and interesting to explore both the timeline and the multiverse. Let’s hope it stays that way.
