ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 8: Is Stana Katic’s Beckett in danger in finale?

Ever since the (super-sad) news first broke that Stana Katic would be leaving “Castle” at the end of the season, a decision that seemed to be made without much input from her at all, there have been questions regarding the how of Beckett being written out of the story. If this was the end of the series, it would be easy to envision an ending where Kate and Richard Castle just go off, be happy, and we can imagine them fighting crime for the rest of their lives.

But how about if the show comes back? The issue here is that you don’t want to change the Beckett or Castle character to the point that they don’t look like themselves anymore, and if they were to break up and never speak to each other again, that’d feel out of character. Even during this past separation (which had its own fair share of believability issues), there was at least some communication. We assume that this is where the rumors about Beckett being killed off are coming from, since it’s hard to imagine many other situations where the character wouldn’t be around in Rick’s life. (Who knows? Maybe the writers have another idea that’ll surprise us.)

Of course, the powers-that-be are not confirming anything, but co-showrunner Alexi Hawley made it clear to Entertainment Weekly that in the upcoming finale, the LokSat investigation will put both Castle and Beckett in grave danger from start to finish:

“Their lives are in jeopardy pretty much from [the] jump … What we wanted to do was keep pulling the rug out from under them. Things get dangerous very fast. Ultimately, it’s a back-and-forth between being the hunted and being the hunters all the way through the finale.”
